Important Information About the Primary Election
Florida is a closed primary state, which means only voters registered with a political party may vote for that party’s candidates in partisan races. However, all voters will have the opportunity to vote in certain contests on the Primary Election ballot.
This year, there is one Universal Primary Contest for County Commissioner, District 4. Because all candidates in this race belong to the same party and the winner will face no opposition in the General Election, all registered voters, regardless of party affiliation, may vote in this contest.
In addition, County Court Judge, Group 1 and School Board, District 3 are nonpartisan races and will appear on all voters’ ballots.
“Voters who do not participate in the Primary Election may miss their opportunity to help decide these important local races,” Jones said.
