Poll Worker Requirements and Positions

All poll workers MUST:

  • Be a registered voter in Levy County.
  • Be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Be able to work a 14-hour day. 
  • Have the patience and the ability to deal courteously with the public and coworkers.
  • Be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Have transportation to the polling place and training classes. (Will be driving in non-daylight hours for some elections.)
  • Have working email address.
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, and have manual/physical dexterity.
  • Complete the required training prior to each election.
  • Remain nonpartisan while working at the polls.
  • Be dependable and committed to the voting process.
  • Treat each voter with the respect they deserve.

Poll Worker Job Description Overview

There are five (5) different types of poll worker positions.  Below is a brief description of each position.  Please be sure to read each description carefully and consider the responsibilities before applying for a position. 


  • In charge of the overall management of the tasks, activities, and Poll Workers in the polling place. 
  • Opens up polling place and determines voting arrangement. 
  • Verifies seal number on the ballot transfer bag. 
  • Prepares ImageCast Evolution (ICE) unit in order to receive ballots. 
  • Serves as a liaison to the elections office.
  • Returns all specified materials to the elections office.

 Assistant Clerk:

  • Assists the clerk in any capacity, may include filling out and signing election-related forms.
  • Prepares Electronic Voter Interface Device (EViD) to check in voters.
  • Is flexible to work any needed position required at the precinct.
  • Must be able to replace clerk in case of an emergency.

Equipment Operator:

  • Stays stationed by voting unit.
  • Instructs voter on how to insert voted ballots.
  • Advises voter if ballot has been rejected on the first pass.


  • Locates voter and verifies address and signature on the Electronic Voter Interface Device (EViD).
  • Assigns voter appropriate ballot and privacy folder.
  • Keeps privacy booths clean.


  • Stands outside the entrance of precinct.
  • Directs voter to entrance of polling room.
  • Takes instructions from the Clerk when necessary.
  • Ends voting at 7 p.m. by placing self in line and notifies voters who approach that polls are closed.
